This is my submission for @robjyeo's #armchairimagineering challenge for a haunted house: The Depths [of the living mountain], part of “Mount Mystery“, the living, man-eating mountain (see the previous submission published on 26th June on Instagram).
Mount Mystery from the previous challenge |
THE DEPHTS
FACADE: the access is via the central hub of the Mount Mystery area. There's no actual facade for this attraction, there's only the entrance of a tunnel in a rocky wall.
PRESHOW: you are greeted by a fellow explorer in a cave dimly lit by a few lanterns. He tells you he needs your help to find and rescue a friend who went to explore the galleries of the mountain and never came back.
Another explorer comes bringing some flashlights. He explains they belonged to other fellow explorers, but they either got lost or got consumed by the living mountain. He managed to save himself by running faster than the others.
The first explorer is not convinced by the story. While the second insists that he should accompany us, the first one will be our guide and chief of the expedition.
Everyone (in a group of up to 8 people) receives a flashlight.
[If it's not said otherwise, every section of the attraction is mostly dark]
SCENE 1: your guide leads you through a very dark corridor. The only light is coming from your flashlight. You can feel you are walking on pebbles. You can hear weird sounds as of someone breathing deeply and loudly.
S 2: your group gets go a crossroads. The guide asks you to wait for him while he goes to see if the road on the right is safe.
After a few seconds a scream is heard. The guide emerges from the road on the right, the lower part of his body is in the mouth of a giant, monstrous worm. With his last words he urges you to take the other road. The space lights up with a red light as the guide is dragged away by the monster. Then everything gets dark again.
As you are approaching the tunnel on the left, the guide, in a zombie-like, mad state, emerges again with a jump, scaring you.
S 3: you follow another corridor. Only the ceiling is dimly lit in red and you can see some stalactites. The pavement is soft.
Every now and then the surrounding walls light up with small, red lights (optic fibres?) that seem to pulse and go in your same direction, recreating the flux of something.
S 4: you go through a pitch black corridor. From the walls a lot of arms and hands emerge and you can't avoid touching them.
The pavement is solid.
Towards the end of the corridor a man made of rocks emerges to scare you.
S 5: then there's a section where small pairs of blinking eyes watch you in the darkness. If you point your flashlight towards those eyes you'll see that they are part of rocky walls.
The pavement is trembling.
There's creepy music.
S 6: you find yourself in a room that's quite big. There are several diamonds and gems shining of a trembling light. There's a “shining" sound and a sweet smell. Marcus Mystery was right, there was a treasure to be found after all.
As the group is halfway through the room the gems stop shining (they literally turn to black) and the shining sound stops.
Then a loud roar is heard and a giant worm with sharp teeth emerges from the darkness to attack you.
Scene 6 |
S 7: you escape from the worm via a rotating tunnel with rocks. You can hear the sound of rolling stones.
The pavement feels like a rope bridge.
S 8: you end up in another dark corridor with unlucky explorers absorbed into the rocky walls. A few of them actually have not been fully absorbed by the mountain yet and they jump out to scare you.
The pavement is solid, but irregular.
S 9: you can hear a noise of flowing fluids while a thin, red river (like lava) flows above your head.
S 10: you enter a big, round space. You can hear a beating heart and you can see a huge, rocky heart in the middle of the room. Feeble lights recreate a flux of fluids through vessel-like structures.
Suddenly an enormous, red and yellow eye opens up in the ceiling. The room is then filled with wind.
Scene 10 |
S 11: this place is filled with weird plants and flowers. The pavement is soft.
Some flowers spray water on you as you pass by.
The smell is sweet.
S 12: the way is narrow and some part of the rocks on the walls have shining colours (lit with UV light). There's smoke everywhere and the presence of some mirrors makes it more difficult to find your way. You are hallucinating because of the toxic perfumes the plants have sprayed you with.
There are a few scare actors with glowing colours on their face and arms hidden among the rocks.
The sweet scent is the same as in the previous scene.
S 13: here you'll discover that the mountain is breeding smaller one-eyed mountains, who are sleeping.
You can see the exit so you go on in that direction. Just before you reach it you wake up a little mountain. The creature opens its shining eye and gets up to attack you as it has developed legs and arms that allow it to walk or run.
Scene 13 |
You then exit near "The Safe Spot" dining location.
